There was definitely a period in the mid-2000s through the early 2010s where Pharrell was spotted wearing a ton of customized sneakers and other footwear. These hand-painted NMDs are just one example, covered in an array of doodles and slogans that shine a little bit of a light into Pharrell's creative process, but also function as a snapshot of whatever his interests were in that moment.
