More than just a luxury home accessory, this one-of-a-kind cashmere blanket is a work of art, created alongside the Dior Spring 2021 Menswear collection. For this collection, Kim Jones collaborated with acclaimed Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo, whose striking portraits of Black subjects, often his friends and family, had become highly sought after in the contemporary art world.
Jones, inspired after meeting Boafo a year before, worked closely with him to develop a thoughtfully curated collection, uniquely shot in both the artist's studio and Jones' home. For the collection, Boafo's signature portraiture, featuring finger-painted details on his figure's hands and face, was beautifully translated onto sweaters in vibrant hues. In this exceptional and unique piece, his 2018 painting titled Hudson Burk and Benedita Furacao, was expertly rendered on a soft cashmere blanket. The original painting was featured in Boafo's debut solo exhibition Amoako Boafo: Soul of Black Folks. Despite its textile medium, the blanket wonderfully captures the deep texture and rich color variations typical of Boafo's work, making it a truly rare and incredible piece of fashion and art.
